The physical characterization of rock samples, whether collected in the field or as core and drill cuttings is a dying art. Ammonite believes that good sample descriptions are essential to a successful exploration program.

Many universities have stopped teaching students how to describe rock samples in the laboratory, and most companies have closed their training centers. To counter this trend, Dr. Robert Merrill, doing business as Catheart Energy, has developed a training program in rock sample visualization and characterization which he has presented around the world.
